Reality Show :real vs reel life

March 23, 2008
Tyson, tough guy, isn’t — but this story is not about the well known world heavyweight boxing champion Tyson who lately was more unpopular in this greater world courtesy the inner weaknessses and ever increasing competitive environment around, rahter this is about a humble but hungry for knowledge, sober but sharp like razor, polite but powerful, quiet but quick, cute but challenging friend of mine, who born and brought up in Bokaro with mother, a god-fearing simple lady and father a sober and strong-minder man working in the HR deptt of Bokaro Steel plant.

Few incidents which do not let me forget him
a. it was a quiet afternoon, we had just returned from the Plant(tata motors) and had our lunch in the common mess, I was bit tired of the work and preferred taking a nap in my hostel room, by 2pm, I was again ready to go back to work while in between I met Tyson, who was retuning from Library with few books in hand, a bit down. On asking the reason, he said , yaar I was in the library with my manager, he is impressed with my performance and is looking forward towards getting me into ERC (Engineering and Research and Deptt) of Tata Motors, we both were looking for a book on Gears ($&#^$@ – for me), luckily i came across some Reference book on my favorite topic of mechanical engg, asking to the librarian, if this book can be issued, he refused but my manager went a step ahead and recommended my name, at this the Librarian agreead but I did not like this favour, I questioned my manager — Sir, if this book can not be issued for anybody in normal fashion, then I do not want favor, incase you still want to pursue , kindly get this book permanently into regular section, but do not do this favor for me.

b. A highly disciplined guy, passout of BHU mechanical had presented papers and thrown suggestion to some renowned Journals. Staunch believer of resource utilization, and the belief, that its the technology and resournce utilization which can solve the misery of the people.

ERC fest: This 3 day fest organized by Tata Motors Engineers was open for participation to all colleges and schools of Jamshedpur (except XLRI) , with a budget amounting to 3lacs in 2003, the prizes were worth competing for. Tyson though a mechanical engineer was our IT head (myself his assistant: i was the head of hospitality group), that was once i saw him putting 12-14 hours religiously into the program organization. The database was huge (with close to 15 schools and 3 colleges participating) , together with the variety of events and the Tatas tradition of recognizing the talent, we had quite a lot of calulcaiton stuff on Excel Sheets. I am sure still many of these managers handling Excel would not be knowing the powress of Microsoft Excel ( the use of VB with Excel )and custom methods. It was a good effort where i witnessed the seriouseness and diligence of friend.
